Meet 2025 College Captain Dimercia Kalenga

Why did you apply to be a College captain?

I applied to be College Captain because I was welcomed hands and hearts of mercy to the St Saviour’s College community at the beginning of Year 7. Since then, I have been given so many opportunities across different fields and aspects of education and life which allowed me to grow into the young woman that I am today. Going for this role as college captain gave me the opportunity and ability to give back to the community that had and always accepted me.

What do you imagine the role to be?

I imagine the role to be a duty of service not only to the St Saviour's College community, but also to the wider community. It will be a role where humility is vital for learning to proceed from different experiences and cultures within our college. I also imagine it to be a role where I may just need to be a listening ear to some, a voice to others and even a shoulder to lean on from time to time.

What do you hope to achieve?

My hope of achievements as College Captain is to create a schooling atmosphere where everyone feels comfortable, connected and considered. This will power our school values of justice, compassions, hospitality and excellence. I hope during the coming school year our College will see growth in the spiritual, sporting, cultural and academic aspects.

What do you think some of the challenges will be?

Some challenges I believe I may face are flexibility of studies and home life. I also believe that appealing to everyone's needs and or ideas for the school will be a challenging task.

What are the skills/attributes that you’ll bring to the role?

Some skills and attributes that I will bring to the role include an understanding nature, approachable demeanour, a welcoming environment and most of an attitude to serve all, through servant leadership.

How do you want to feel about the role at the end of 2025?

I want to feel complete and sad to leave behind such an amazing community that has shaped me. I also want to feel different in terms of all the learning that I will achieve with the situations and opportunities that this role will bring with it.
